Today's Norfolk Southern's Dayton District is a result of the Conrail split in 1999. The track alignment follows the former New York Central's Big Four (Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad (CCC&ST.L) acquired in 1920 from just north of Cincinnati to London. When NYC and Pennsylvania merged in 1968, the Penn Central abandoned the NYC east of London. Thus, the trains from London to Columbus follow the Pennsy mainline east of London, Ohio.
