One of the most meaningful intersections of my educational career and my Masonic journey is the Masonic Model Student Assistance Program (MMSAP).

As both an educator and a Mason, I have long believed that helping young people succeed extends beyond academics. Sometimes students simply need someone who recognizes they are struggling and is willing to help before small problems become larger ones.

 

That philosophy lies at the heart of MMSAP.

 

Developed by the National Masonic Foundation for Children, the program equips educators and community members to recognize students facing academic, emotional, or social challenges and connect them with appropriate support. It reflects Freemasonry's commitment to relief, compassion, and service—not only within our lodges, but throughout our communities.

 

Although the full Ohio program has been largely dormant in recent years, efforts are underway to restore and expand it. That opportunity to help rebuild something meaningful is what drew me to become involved.

 

Since 2024, I have served as the Second Masonic District Coordinator for MMSAP, working to increase awareness among local lodges and help prepare for the program's future growth. Beginning in 2026, I was appointed to serve on the statewide MMSAP Committee, joining six other members committed to bringing the program to more schools and helping more students across Ohio.

 

For me, MMSAP represents more than a committee assignment. It brings together two of the passions that define GEMS+H: education and service. It reminds me that the greatest lessons we teach are often not found in textbooks, but in the lives we influence.
