The Stories That Bind Us

The Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill---
Preserving the Stories of Masonic Patriots
Some stories deserve to be remembered.

The Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill is a patriotic and historical side-order of Freemasonry—not a degree—created to preserve the memory, ideals, and sacrifices of the generation that helped shape America. In particular, the Order honors the Masonic forefathers whose lives connected Freemasonry with the struggle for American independence.

For me, that connection between Masonry and American history is more than something to study. It is a story worth carrying forward.
The American Revolution was shaped by men who believed deeply in principles such as liberty, service, sacrifice, and responsibility. Many of those men were Freemasons. Their Masonic lives were not separate from the history they helped create; their values became part of the story of a nation.

The Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill provides an opportunity for Masons today to remember those men—not simply as names in a history book, but as individuals whose choices, convictions, and sacrifices helped shape the world that followed.

Carrying the Story Forward
That is the reason I am working to establish the Dr. Joseph Warren Chapter of the Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill.
Joseph Warren represents exactly the kind of story I believe should not be forgotten. A physician, patriot, Mason, and leader of the American Revolution, Warren gave his life at Bunker Hill while serving a cause he believed was greater than himself.
Naming our Chapter in his honor is therefore intentional. It connects our present-day Masonic work with a particular person and a particular story—and gives us an opportunity to make sure that story continues to be told.

Over the past seven months, I have been working to secure the necessary approvals, develop the foundation for the Chapter, recruit interested brethren, and establish the structure needed for it to become an active body of the Order.
The goal is not simply to create another Masonic organization.
The goal is to preserve history, teach its lessons, and give today's Masons an opportunity to connect with the men who came before us.

From History to Inspiration

The Order's local bodies bring together Master Masons who share an interest in preserving the memory of America's founding generation. Through its traditions, ritual, and historical emphasis, the Order creates a setting where that history can become more than something we read about—it becomes something we remember, discuss, and pass on.

That is particularly meaningful to me because it brings together several of the things I care most deeply about: Masonry, history, education, and the stories of the people who came before us.

The Dr. Joseph Warren Chapter is still in its formative stages. We are assembling the initial officer line, developing our bylaws and organizational structure, and working with the Grand Order toward chartering and the eventual conferral of the Order.
Our anticipated area of service will include Warren County and the surrounding counties, with a local Masonic lodge serving as our meeting place.

There is still work to do before the Chapter is fully operational.

But every organization begins with a story—and with people who believe that story is worth preserving.
The Story Continues
My hope for the Dr. Joseph Warren Chapter is that it will become more than a place where the Order of the Sword of Bunker Hill is conferred.
I hope it becomes a place where Masons can discover the stories behind the names, understand the sacrifices behind the history, and recognize the principles that connect generations of Freemasons.
Because history is not simply about looking backward.
It is about understanding what those who came before us valued, what they were willing to sacrifice for, and what responsibilities their stories place upon those who come next.
Joseph Warren's story ended at Bunker Hill.
The story he helped create did not.

And through the Dr. Joseph Warren Chapter, I hope to help ensure that the story—and the lessons it carries—continue to be told.
