Curious about GEMS+H, Rocky's presentations, or the stories behind them? Here are some of the questions I hear most often.
What is GEMS+H?
GEMS+H stands for Genealogy, Education, Masonry, Stamps and History—the five areas that shape the stories I research, collect and share.

They may seem like separate interests, but I've found that the most interesting stories often appear where they intersect.
What do you mean by "The Stories That Bind Us"?
The past isn't just a collection of dates and names. It's a collection of people, choices, discoveries and connections.

I'm interested in finding those connections—and sharing the stories that show how the past connects us to one another and to the world we live in today.
What kinds of presentations do you give?
My presentations draw from genealogy, education, Masonry, stamps and history. Some focus on a particular historical story or subject, while others use an unusual object, personal experience or collection to explore a larger idea.

The common thread is storytelling: taking something I've discovered and finding the story worth sharing—and the connection that makes it matter.
Can you tailor a presentation for my organization?
Absolutely. I have established presentations, but I can tailor the emphasis, examples and stories to fit your audience, organization and event.

Who is your audience?
I've spoken to and worked with audiences ranging from community organizations and libraries to Masonic groups, educators, collectors and people simply curious about a good story.

You don't have to be an expert in history—or any of the five GEMS+H areas—to enjoy the presentations.
What is the connection between stamps and history?
A stamp can be much more than a piece of postage. It can be a doorway into a person, event, movement or moment in history.
That's why I use philately in my research and storytelling. Sometimes the smallest object can lead to a much bigger story.
Do you offer exhibits as well as presentations?
Yes. My stamp exhibits use philately to tell historical stories, often bringing together stamps, covers, photographs and other material to explore a larger subject.
